No 10% EBC quota this year for medical and dental courses in Gujarat, admission procedure from tomorrow

Gandhinagar: According to Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel Gujarat government has taken a decision to do away with implementation of 10% quota for Economically Backward Class(EBC) in medical and dental colleges of Gujarat for this year. The admission procedure this year will therefore take place like previous year.

The government will continue to stick to its decision on 10% EBC quota in other streams of education including Engineering and also in government job recruitment. The decision will be taken in this regard a per the final verdict in the Supreme Court.

These decisions were taken in a high level meeting held by the State government to review the situation following stay on 10% EBC quota by Supreme Court.

Admission procedure for NRI and management quota seats in medical and dental will start tomorrow and continue for five days.

According to Nitin Patel medical and dental admission procedure needs to be completed before 30th September or otherwise there’s a danger of cancellation of seats.

He said a meeting in this regard was held today under the leadership of Chief Minister and it was participated by state education, law and justice, health ministers, chief secretary and advocate general.

All options open before the government were discussed in this meeting. It should be mentioned that Gujarat High Court had scraped 10% EBC quota notification issued by Gujarat government. The state government went to Supreme Court to get stay order against the High Court verdict. The state government is going to appeal for earliest hearing in this matter.

As per the order of the Supreme Court that all medical and dental admission procedure should be completed by 30th September, the state government has taken a decision to start the admission procedures for medical and dental from tomorrow. It will continue for five days and admission procedure will be completed in phased manner.

Patel said that Rupani led BJP government will continue to maintain its stand regarding 10% EBC and will be committed to it.
