2,000 decorated umbrellas to be in display at Tarnetar fair starting tomorrow

Surendranagar: As many as 2,000 decorated umbrellas will be exhibited at the traditional annual fair of Tarnetar in Surendranagar district of Gujarat which is going to be held during 4-7 September.

Decorated umbrellas is one of the main attractions of Tarnetar fair. Local villagers come to Tarnetar fair with decorated umbrellas that mostly have peacock at the top and colorful handkerchiefs hanging on the bottom.

District Police has set up 12 watch towers, 24 CCTV cameras, 2 drone and deployed 10 horse mounted police tems, 12 secret service cops, 3 teams of secret service cops, 10 DySPs, 25 police inspectors, 85 police sub inspectors, 5 women police sub inspectors, 880 police men, 130 women police, 520 home guard jawans, 215 Gram Rakshak Dal jawans, 216 State Reserve Police(SRP) jawans and 72 women SRPs.

Duha-Raas, traditional dress, flute playing, rope, horse riding, laddu eating are some of the competitions planned by the administration during the Tarnetar fair.

Eastern side gate of Trineteshwar Mahadev Mandir will remain open only for women while southern side gate will be used by gents.

Talvarbaji and lathidav(display of sword and stick skills) are not allowed in the fair as per an order by additional district magistrate.

Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation(GSRTC) is going to run over 160 buses for Tarnetar fair during 3-7 September. Railways is going to run additional DEMU train and attach extra general coaches for four days.

Gujarat Chief Minister will be visiting the fair on September 6.

There will be separate stage for those dressed in traditional attire and dancing with decorated umbrella in hand.
