Surat:The crime branch of Surat police has detained at least five leaders of Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) as a precautionary measure before tomorrow’s felicitation function of top BJP brass by Patidar community, Police said today.

Commissioner of Police Ashish Bhatia said that at least five leaders of PAAS including its Saurashtra convener Lalit Vasoya and spokesperson Varun Patel have been detained.

‘They have been detained as a precautionary measure in the wake of tomorrow’s event,’ he said.

Meanwhile, police sources said that the detained PAAS leaders are likely to be released tomorrow after the function which would also be attended by among others the national BJP president Amit Shah.

A section of disgruntled leaders of PAAS have announced to oppose the event. Mr Shah would also inaugurate a party office here tomorrow and participate in the mahasammelan of 8 districts of South Gujarat in Vyara headquarter town of Tapi district.
