Ahmedabad: A major tragedy was averted today when a school bus carrying over 30 children suddenly caught fire in Sabarmati area of the city this morning, police said.
The 34 children of the primary wing of Tapovan School seated in the bus were quickly moved out of the bus as soon as the driver noticed a fire in its front part.
The fire started from the engine of the bus, most likely owing to a short circuit of some wire or overheating of some part, very quickly spread and engulfed the whole bus.
By the time the two fire brigade vehicles with 8 firemen reached the spot and extinguished the fire, the bus was almost completely burnt.
The private bus was being used by the school on contract basis to carry its pupils.
