Lioness strays into village; captured in Amreli district of Gujarat

Vadodara:An Asiatic lioness, which had entered the Virpur-Gadhia village in Amreli district of Gujarat was captured and sent to Jasadhar medical centre for treatment, a senior forest department official said today.
“The lioness was captured and caged at around 3 AM on Sunday (December 18) from the forest area near the Virpur-Gadhia village. We found her to be weak and hence she was sent to the Jasadhar medical centre for treatment,” T Kapaswami, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Amreli told PTI.
“After the lioness is found to be fully fit, she is will be released in the forest,” Kapaswami added.
According to the official, the village is located about 10 kms from the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, which houses 511 lions as per last census.
