Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum to open this month in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The city of Ahmedabad will get one more museum this month. Inauguration of the new museum featuring late Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai is scheduled to take place on January 29. Its opening for public visit however will be on February 19.
The museum has been developed in a century old(built in 1905) ancestral bungalow of Lalbhais in Shahibaug area of Ahmedabad by Jayshri Lalbhai, wife of industrialist Sanjay Lalbhai(Arvind Ltd). The bungalow has been restored by renowned architect Rahul Mehrotra for museum purpose.
The museum will showcase artifacts collected by Kasurbhai, including miniatures and bronze collection of Rabindranagar Tagore family; Persian, Deccan and Pahari painting school pictures, painted postcards from pre-independence India along with art in stone, metal and wood.
Lot of addition has been planned in near future to this museum including digitized photographs and letters in another building which is being constructed in same campus next to the ancestaral bungalow. In this new gallery proposed, the history of Lalbhai family right from Shantidas Seth will be showcased. The gallery will have family pictures, letters, royal orders, books.
It should be mentioned that grandson of Kasturbhai Lalbhai Shri Sanjay Lalbhai has at present showcased small exhibition featuring Kasturbhai Lalbhai at his Santej based plant.
Shahibaug area in Ahmedabad presently has an international-level textile museum set up by Sarabhai family. It has museum featuring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel too nearby. Also the Kutch museum has opened recently in this area.
Kasturbhai Sheth was key aid of Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, an iron man of India in Gujarat.
