Clash between Indian and foreign students at Parul University, 11 arrested

Vadodara: Five to six Indian students, five students from Afghanistan, one from Zambia and another one from Cameroon at Parul University in Vadodara are booked for rioting and other charges by Vadodara Police in connection with violent clash that broke out between Indian and foreign students yesterday evening.

Police has held 11 students so far. More are likely to be arrested if found involved.

According to police and university management, one Indian student Anuj was passing through the international hostel area yesterday evening when he had verbal and later physical clash with Afghan students. Agitated by ‘attack’ on Anuj, a group of Indian students gathered in some time. On the other side international students too formed a group and entered into clash which ultimately went violent.

Cross complaints are filed in this incident by Yash Gautam on Indian students side while Muhammad from Afghanistan on foreign students side. According to Yash Gautam’s complaint he along with other Indian students were passing from international hostel area when Muhammad from Afghanistan shouted, why one boy with us Anuj was staring at him. He called Anuj and then started beating him up. Anuj was punched and thrashed. Attack on him continued till rector came an intervened. Later a group of foreign students attacked Indian students with pipes, sticks and stones. One Indian students Hitesh Patel was attacked with a bench and caused injury.

In cross complaint, 21-year old Afghan student Muhammad Abdul stated that post 8 pm yesterday a group of Indian students was passing from the international hostel area after dinner and one Anuj in that group was staring at him. He asked Anuj why he was staring at him. In response to this the Indian students formed a group and attacked international students.

Two students have suffered head injuries in this clash. They have undergone CT scan test which has been found normal. Their wounds are stitched and the are to be discharged from hospital in couple of days. In total 16 are injured while 9 are treated for injuries in hospital.

The university management has formed a committee headed by campus director Vijay Rathod which will question the students involved in clash. Those responsible will face actions including rustication according to university management.
