Paldi police raid liquor party, pick up 29 NID students including a foreigner

Ahmedabad: Paldi police early in the morning today raided and picked up 29 students of National Institute of Design(NID) consuming liquor.
Out of 29 who are detained, 15 are boys while 14 are girls. One of those detained is South African citizen according to police.
According to ACP Chavda, police was informed by an alert citizen about liquor party going on in Pushkar flat on NID road post midnight with loud music. Based on this information when police reached flat premises at around 1.30 am, as many as 29 students were found there involved in liquor party.
Police found and later seized one bottle full of whisky, one gin bottle – half full, ten quarter size liquor containers, 1 quarter container which is full, 22 mobile phones – totaling Rs 1.64 lakh value.
Police picked up the accused and brought them to Paldi police station. They are booked under prohibition law with a new section pertaining to liquor party that has provision of harsh punishment.
Police has at this point not revealed identities of students. Those detained, are kept at Paldi police station in closed door in order to prevent them from the sight of media. When media cameras somehow managed to focus on the faces of accused in the afternoon, the accused used newspaper to hide their faces.
According to police, it has formed two teams led by Police Sub Inspectors. The probe team will investigate into source of liquor, passport and visa detail of one foreign citizen who has been held, flat owner’s role and medical tests of accused.
It should be mentioned here that due to lack of enough hostel facility within the campus, many NID students live outside the campus in nearby flats on rent basis. Police has received complains from local citizens in the past on about liquor parties in such rented flats. However this is the first time that raid has been successful.
