Rajkot: The ring leader of the 4 sharp-shooters of the D-gang nabbed from a bus by the police here today, Ramdas Rane is a notorious member of the crime racket run by Anis Ibrahim, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and was accused in various cases including that of an attack on noted film-maker Rajiv Rai known for films super-hit like ‘Mohra’, ‘Gupt’ and ‘Tridev’.

A police official involved in the investigation of the matter said that Rane and three other shooters identified and Vineet Kundalik , Anil R Dhilod and Sandeep have confirmed their connection with the D-gang during the primary interrogation.

However, around 40 year old Rane is the most notorious among them. A known face of the D-gang in Mumbai, he was involved in the attack on Rai in 1997. He was also wanted in a case of attack on famous Mumbai based builder Omprakash Kukreja in 1995 and an NRI in 2003. He had also opened fire on the office of another builder in New Marine line area in Mumbai in 2011. All these crimes were committed allegedly on the direction of D-gang.

The official said that they were caught on the basis of a tip off from the private luxury bus coming from Maharashtra. Some plain clothed policemen in bullet-proof jacket were seated in the bus and kept a watch on them. ‘We primarily thought that these suspicious people had something to do with the sensational and mysterious recovery of a time-bomb in the city a few days ago. But later it turned out that they were on a Supari killing mission of a Jamnagar based businessmen related with the ship-breaking business,’ the official said adding that apart from a pistol and around half a dozen live cartridges, three knives and some fake number plates have been recovered from their possession.

The matter is being investigated. Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat police is also assisting the crime branch of Gujarat police and Jamnagar police in this regard.
