Renown Gujarati poet Chinu Modi passes away

Ahmedabad: Famous poet and ghazalkar Chinu Modi is no more. He was admitted to hospital after heart attack last week and kept on life support system. Today he was shifted to his resident where he passed away.

Born on 30th September 1939, Chinubhai contributed to Gujarati literature with his poetry, plays, novels, stories.

Born in Vijapur in North Gujarat, Modi had his primary education in Vijapur. He completed secondary education in Dholka near Ahmedabad. He passed metric in 1954 and Bachelar of Arts in 1958 with Gujarati as main subject. He completed LLB in 1961 and MA with Hindi subject from Gujarat University in 1968. Chiinubhai was into teaching in colleges of Kapadvanj and Talod during 1961-64. During 1965-75 he was professor in Ahmedabad’s Swaminarayan Arts college. He worked as script writer in Indian Space Research Organization during 1975-1977. He was freelancer in advertising sector in 1977.

Chinubhai has given over 50 books of poetry, drama, novel, stories, critics, biography, collection, songs and translation.

His takhallus was ‘Irshad’.

Chinubhai had received Sahitya Academy award in 2014.

He is survived by his daughter Nimisha Bhatt who is based in America, Ingit Modi who is Chartered Accountant and Utpal Modi who is into film making.

Chinubhai’s body will be donated to NHL medical college as per his wish tomorrow at around noon. Before that, his body will be kept at his residence 16 Jitendrapark Society Rajnagar, Vishwakunj char rasta, Paldi for antim darshan in the morning.
