I withdraw myself from the race of Chief Minister’s post: Shankersinh Vaghela

Ahmedabad: Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly, Shankersinh Vaghela today while addressing a gathering of party’s ticket aspirants in Ahmedabad today said he doesn’t want the post of Chief Minister. He announced his withdrawal from the race of Chief Minister’s post in reference to upcoming Gujarat assembly general elections scheduled to take place in the month of December this year.

Vaghela while stressing on importance of team work for party’s victory in his speech said, “this is not the contest of Chief Minister’s post. It’s a question that would arise after the elections. I don’t want the post of Chief Minister. I withdraw myself from the race.”

Vaghela later mentioned that Yogi Adityanath was elected as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh not due to wishes of party leadership but due to overwhelming pressure from over 175 BJP MLAs who chanted slogans demanding his elevation to CM’s post.

In reference to recent reports regarding his Delhi visit, Vaghela said he had gone to Gurgaon for some social task. On his meeting with Sharad Pawar he said he had visited Pawar to ask whether Pawar was honest enough to apply brakes on BJP in Gujarat. Vaghela said Pawar told him that he was against the BJP and ready to apply brakes to BJP rule in Gujarat.

“Rest of the things over whether to make Congress-NCP alliance or not would be decided by party high-command, but I found Pawar anti-BJP, and I had met him for this purpose,” said Vaghela.

Shankersinh said he would be tough in his approach to cadre till the end of the elections to see that party wins the polls. Vaghela said he would do injustice to Kshatriyas, Minorities in order to see that Congress win the polls. If we are not in power and few of our MLAs are elected, we are not going to be able to do justice to anyone, he added.

He said, “who can win and who can not in elections is special science. It is necessary to have a government. This election of Gujarat is going to be a turning point in the country. There are enough reasons for Congress’s victory and BJP’s defeat. People have opined for it, we have to fit in public’s eyes. Our speech, behavior, conduct, practice should be in accordance to it whether the elections come in May end or June or post Diwali.”
