Water released in Narmada, power generation on, relief to salinity-hit Dahej
April 16, 2017
Bharuch: Two power units of river bed power house each having capacity of 1200 MW have been made functional as water level in Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam has gone above 120 meter mark. Daily 7,000 MW power has been generated during last two days.
Thanks 20-25,000 cu sec inflow of water from upstream area of Narmada dam, water level is just 2 meter down from 121.92 meter height of spillway. Thanks to release of 14,000 cu sec water in downstream, river Narmada has become richer. With this, relief is expected from the problem of salinity in downstream areas such as Dahej. It should be noted here that district collector had requested Narmada Control Authority to release water to downstream areas in order to control salinity issue in the area where Narmada river meets sea.
