Gujarat Haj Committee to request center to further increase state quota

Gandhinagar: The Chairman of Gujarat State Haj Committee, Principal Mohamadali Kadri will soon meet the union minister of state for minority affairs (independent charge) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to urge him to further increase the haj quota for the state.

After a meeting of the committee held here today Mr Kadri informed this. He, however, said that the number of approved quota for Haj for Gujarat this year was 10877, which was an all time high. ‘Yet taking the sentiments of the community members in to account I would meet the minister and request him to raise it further,’ he said.

The Charmian said that the minister of state for health Shanker Chaudhary has already recommended to send a 15 member medical team to Mecca and Madina for the proper care of Hajis from Gujarat. The proposal was now with the union ministry of minority affairs.

He said that various issues pertaining to Haj and Hajis were taken up in today’s meeting.

He also said that the committee member from opposition Congress (MLA) Gayasuddin Saikh also attended the meeting today and expressed satisfaction about the steps being taken by the government.
