Sri Lankan President thanks PM Modi for gifting Dickoya hospital

Colombo: President Maithripala Sirisena today extended his sincere appreciation to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for bestowing Sri Lanka with the facility of a new hospital in Dickoya, Hatton.

The Dickoya Hospital was vested with the people this afternoon by Prime Minister Modi.

The 150-bed multi-specialty Hospital was built with Indian assistance while the hospital will also receive aid worth $2.6 billion from the Indian government.

Speaking to the large numbers of estate workers gathered in Dickoya following the opening ceremony, the Head of State marked today as a momentous occasion claiming the foundation stone for the hospital was laid during his term as Minister of Health during the previous United People’s Freedom Alliance led government.

The President said his wish at the time was that the construction would take place promptly adding he never thought that the Indian Prime Minister himself would arrive in the island to declare open the hospital.

Therefore President Sirisena termed this occasion momentous as the opening ceremony takes place alongside the International Vesak Day celebrations.
