BJP wins 23 of 37 seats in Nagarpalika, Taluka Panchayat by-polls in Gujarat, fresh gain of 10 seats

Gandhinagar: BJP has won total 23 seats(up from 13 previously with fresh gain of 10), Congress has got 13 seats and Independent candidate has won 1 seat in 37-seat taluka panchayat and nagarpalika(municipality) by-polls, results of which were declared today after polling last Sunday.

The State Election Commission of Gujarat had announced by-polls of 9 seats across 8 municipalities in 7 districts. By-polls were also announced for 32 taluka panchayat seats across 29 taluka panchayats in 18 districts and 1 district panchayat seat in Ahmedabad.

Palitana municipality ward 3 candidate of BJP was declared victorious unopposed.

By-poll on one vacant seat in Ahmedabad district panchayat (Gangad) was stayed by the Court.

No candidate had filed nomination for Abasana seat of Bhabhar taluka panchayat, Vansa seat of Harij taluka panchaat, Satlasna seat of Satlasna and Jamvali seats of Thangadh taluka panchayats. Thus the by-polls for these seats were canceled.

Therefore by-polls were held for rest of 37 seats.

As per the State Election Commission, out of total 9 municipality(nagarpalika) seats across 8 municipalities, BJP has won 6 seats while Congress 3 while 1 seat has been won by a candidate(BJP) in Palitana municipality unopposed.

At the same time, out of 28 taluka panchayat seats, 17 seats have been won by BJP candidates while 10 by Congress candidate. An independent candidate has won one seat.

State BJP president Jitu Vaghani reacting to the results said, the party has won 17 of 27 taluka panchayat seats with fresh gain of 10 seat. The party previously had won only 7 of these 27 seats.
Out of all 37 seats, the party has won 23 seat against 13 previously and thus the party has added 10 seats.

Congress party’s Saurashtra incharge Rajeev Satav in his tweet said: Congress won 4 out f 5 seats in Taluka Panchayat by-election of Devbhumi Dwarka District of Gujarat.

Based on this victory, he went on to say that there’s a Congress wave across Gujarat.

However, today’s overall results indicate that BJP is still the boss in Gujarat. At the same time BJP’s ‘Congress Mukt Gujarat’ target seems very far away. Congress is still there as the second powerful force.

State party president Jitu vaghani said the Congress party knowing very well that by-polls are to be held across the state took hold of a victim family in Mahesana and started playing dirty politics over sensitive issue of someone’s death in judicial custody. Vaghani said, ‘in today’s results, Congress has lost seats even in Patidar populated areas’.

Gujarat Congress spokesperson Dr Manish Doshi reacting to today’s results sad the Congress candidates have snatched Dhoraji and Dhrol municipality seats from BJP.Doshi further said, by-polls mostly elect the ruling party candidates. Even after many attempts to disturb the democratically elected Panchayat bodies, BJP has not been successful to topple even a single district or taluka panchayat where Congress is in power.

Municipality seats won by BJP(6):

Mansa ward 3, Palitana ward 3, Botad ward 3, Jetpur Navgadh ward 2, Dhrol ward 1 and Babra ward 1.

Municipality seats won by Congress(3):

Dhoraji ward 12, Okha ward 5 and Dhrol ward 6.

Kundel in Danta, Karza in Amirgadh, Ondach in Mahuva, Dedvasan in Mahuva, Kavitha in Bharuch, Kavi-2 in Jambusar, Sakhvadar in Shihor, Sinhuj in Mahemdavad, Varvala in Dwarka, Balpur in Vyara, Kakadva in Dolvan, Mongran in Uchchal, Vankaner in Savli, Thorithambha in Viramgam, Bagodra in Bavla, Rati Devli in Vankaner and Chanchakvad in Una.

Moti Rath in Kadana, Salaiya in Virpur, Anarpur Chhota in Dhanera, Bhesana in Diodar, Chanchvel in Vagra, Chokhanda in Bhanvad, Mota Kalavad in Bhanvad, Navagam in Bhanvad, Pandoli-2 in Petlad and Madhavpur-3 in Porbandar.

BJP has in its note further stated that the party has snatched a seat from Congress in Tushar Chaudhary’s area. The party has snatched two seats from Congress out of total 3 i Bharuch district. The party has also snatched Sinhuj taluka panchayat seat in Kheda-Mahemdavad, Vankaner seat, Shihor-Sakhvadar seat and Una seats from Congress.
