Naidu to participate in event in Gujarat organized to honour the ‘fighters’ during emergency

Ahmedabad: Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will tomorrow participate in an event organized here on the occasion of 42nd anniversary of the declaration of internal emergency to remember and honour all those who fought for restoration of democracy in the country.

It was imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975 and continued for 21 month till its withdrawal on March 21, 1977 and is often referred to as the “darkest phase of independent India”. It was the third time an emergency was declared in independent India. The first two were during the Indo-China War 1962 and Indo-Pak War 1971 respectively.

Naidu would participate in the Valedictory session of the event at Narayani resort near bhat on Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar highway at five pm in the evening. During the event all those who fought for the restoration of democracy during emergency would also be honoured.

Before that Naidu will also visit Sabarmati Ashram in the morning at around 0930 am to present it the 100 volumes of the collected works of Mahatma Gandhi.

He would also inaugurate the 12 th edition of Homes for All Property Show to be held at Gujarat University convention hall from June 24 to 25 organized by GIHED and CREDAI jointly. The Ahmedabad municipal corporation (AMC) service app, common mobility payment card, airport shuttle AC bus service, command and control center under the integrated transport management system of the smart city project and a windmill farm of 4.2 mega watt capacity would also be inaugurated from the same platform in the presence of CM Vijay Rupani and Dy CM Nitin Patel.
