Heavy rains in various parts of Gujarat, very heavy rain warning on for next 48 hours

Gandhinagar:    Kaprada in Valsad district of South Gujarat has witnessed over five inches of rain today even as many other places including parts of Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Morbi and Rajkot have also seen heavy rains today and the met department has predicted some spells of very heavy rains tonight and issued similar warnings for next 48 hours also.
    Ahmedabad has also witnessed some spells of light to moderate rain by the evening and is likely to receive some heavy spells during the night.
     Water logging on roads, around villages and in cities were witnessed at some owing to two days of continuous rains in some parts of South Gujarat including Valsad and Dangs and in North Gujarat and Saurashtra also.
     Ambika, and Purna rivers in South Gujarat were flooded while many including Mahi, Banas  Panari, Shapak and others have seen surge in water level owing to rains in catchment areas.
   Und 2 dam in Jamnagar has again overflown prompting the flood division to open its 25 sluice gate by 4 ft. Water level in Madhuvan, Dantiwada and some other dams have also seen a surge.
     Some villages in Dhrol of Jamnagar have lost connection from other parts owing to water logging around them owing to over two inches of rain today. Yesterday 156 takukas of 31 districts had seen rain with Dharampur in Valsad recording maximum of around 4 inches. Valsad itself saw around 3 and a half inches while Vansada in Navsari also saw similar amount of rain. Uchchhal in Tapi, Vapi in Valsad and Waghai and Subir in Dangs saw almost 3 inches of rain yesterday. This had caused water logging in many areas while 8 villages in Dangs including Kumarbandh, Mulunga, Ghodvas, Soopdaha lost contact from neighboring areas.
   Today Kaprada in Valsad district received over 5 inches or rain (from 8 am to 6 pm in the evening) Poshina in Sabarkantha district – 101 mm, Vijaynagar 64 mm, Khedbrahma 45 Amirgadh in Banaskantha 81mm Anjar in Kutch – 56 mm, Rapar 32, Paddhari in Rajkot 72 mm, Rajkot city 65 mm, Gadureshwar in Narmada district – 43 mm, Kalol in Gandhinagar 55 mm. Tankara in Morbi 67 mm. (for conversion to inch 2.54 cm or 25.4 mm is equal to one inch)
    A total of 182 talukas in 32 districts received different amount of rain till 6 pm today.

The average monsoon rain percentage in the state has crossed 30% mark.

No untoward incident has been reported so far. However the concerned district administration and relief and rescue agencies are on alert and keeping a close watch on the situation.

   Rains had brought down the temperatures below 32°C across the state with Surat recording the highest maximum temperature of 31.6°C. Ahmedabad witnessed a maximum of 30.4°C almost 4 notches below normal.
