Heavy rain in parts of Gujarat, several dams full, rescue operations launched, some major highways closed

Rajkot: Due to heavy rains, several dams are witnessing overflowing water in Saurashtra region. Some important road stretches including main Kutch highway through Maliya and Ahmedabad – Rajkot highway through Limbdi are closed for traffic. Several rescue operations are launched by NDRF and also by Indian Air Force.

– Schools and colleges in Rajkor are declared off today as per the directive by district collector.

– Total 16 persons are rescued in Rajkot district according to Collector. 700 are shifted to safer places so far.

– Due to increase of inflow in Lalpari dam, Rajkot Municipal Corporation(RMC) shifted around 60 persons to safer places.

– Machhu 1, 2 and 3 dams are overflowing. High alert has been issued for Maliya Miyana. Fatehpur is water logged.

– There has been rumor that Machhu-2 dam has developed crack. Irrigation department official and Collector have appealed people not to believe in such rumor.

– Total 104 persons are rescued from Chotila, Sayla, Limbdi, Chuda etc areas since last midnight.

– Breach in Narmada canal near Limbdi has been reported which has resulted into flooding water passing over the national highway. There has been over four km traffic jam as a result.

– Akhbarnagar underpass has been closed for traffic in Ahmedabad due to water logging.

– 2 women and 2 men in-total four are rescued from navagaon in Surendranagar district. They have been shifted to safer place by NDRF.

– Due to heavy rain and water logging at Maliya Miyana railway stations, all trains on this route are stopped at 9.25 am.

– Due to heavy rain on Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway stretch and flooding water passing over the road, there has been traffic jam situation.

– Mahuva – Dhoda passenger train has been stopped at Liliya railway station since midnight as railway tracks are water logged.

– A causeway between Dhanad and Lakhtar near Lakhtar town in Surendranagar district has collapsed. Dhanad village is out of reach.

– NDRF team launched rescue operation to rescue 8 persons stuck in flood at Untadi village of Limbdi belt. One has been rescued by Indian Air Force helicopter.

– River Bhogavo is flooding in Surendranagar district. Dholidhaja dam on this river is overflowing.

– Aaji dam in Rajkot district is likely to overflow by evening.

– Farms in Lakhni taluka of Banaskantha are water logged due to heavy rain.

– District collector, Mamlatdar and others rushed to Sukhbadar dam site in Botad. Sukhbhadar is overflowing. 10 gates are opened. Sukhbhadar dam is located near Paliyad.

– NDRF rescued five persons in a rescue operation launched at Ghanchiwad in Chotila belt.

– Two storey building collapsed in Hathikhana area of Rajkot. No one is injured.

– 100s of people are shifted to safer places in Wankaner, Maliya, Lunsaria and Makranivas, Rabarivas areas of Morbi.

– A bridge on Bhadar river has collapsed near Chhedagaon in Botad belt due to heavy rain and flooding river water.

– Ahmedabad – Porbandar, Savarkundla – Bhavnagar highway stretches are also closed for traffic(situation is dynamic).

– NDRF team has rescued 3 persons trapped in Satda village of Rajkot taluka.

– Chotila taluka has witnessed over 10 inch rain in last 24 hours which comes to over 30 inch in a week.

– NDRF team has launched rescue operation in Parevla village of Jasdan in Rajkot district where 15 people are stuck in flood waters.

– 23 gates of Ozat Shapur dam are opened. Low lying areas are alerted.

– In yet another rescue operation, NDRF rescued three persons at Khakhada village.

– Bhavnagar – Rajkot highway remained closed due to flood water and traffic jam.

– NDRF teams were moved to downstream area villages close to Dharai dams such as Chhasiya, Hadmatiya, Lakhavad, Nana Matra in Vinchhiya taluka of Rajkot district.

– A rickshaw was washed away by flooding water in Rabarika village of Jamjodhpur. Passengers and driver were safe.

– Limbdi – Dhandhuka highway in Surendranagar district was closed for traffic due to water logging.

– Mahika village talav in Wankaner belt has been on alert due to nearly overflow situation. Fire brigade teams are moved.

– 15 persons are rescued by NDRF team in Dharadungri in Sayla.

– Sorthi dam in Advana near Porbandar is overflowing.

– Arvalli, Dahod are other areas where heavy rain has been witnessed and traffic has impacted.

– Maliya – Kutch highway has been closed for traffic due to Machhu dam water flowing over the road stretch.

– Surendranagar – Pipavav railway line is closed for rail movement due to water logging.
