Water level in Sabarmati further recedes, Riverfront walkway still closed

Ahmedabad: The water level of river Sabarmati in Ahmedabad has further come down today. however many villages in central Gujarat have been flooded owing to release of excess water from it.
The water level at Subhash bridge in the city at 10 am this morning has come down to 141.08 meter. This has also resulted in receding of water from the flooded walkway of the adjoining riverfront. However it was still closed from visitors. It is believed that cleaning task will take a week before reopening of walkway and therefore it is likely to remain closed for 8 days. The riverfront garden will remain closed for 4 days.
60 snakes including 1 Cobra snake are captured by forest department and volunteers from walkway.
6,000 people from 37 villages are shifted to safer places in downstream areas.
At around 6 pm in the evening yesterday the water level had gone up to as high as 146.95 meters. After that it was continuously receding.
The release of water from Dharoi dam at 10 am today was around 68 thousand cusec. All the 25 gates of Vasna barrage are still free open to discharge the water.
However many villages in the central Gujarat districts of Kheda and Anand have been flooded owing to surge in Sabarmati and discharge of water from it. Alert have been sounded in the low lying areas.
