Baffled at the raining of sorts of resignations of its MLA’s in Gujarat just before the crucial election on 3 Rajyasabha seats in Gujarat slated for August 8 in which the prestige of its senior leader and political advisor of Sonia Gandhi Ahmed Patel is at stake, main opposition Congress today alleged that ruling BJP was misusing ‘money, muscle and political’ power to affect the elections and also attempting to buy its MLA’s.

National Spokesperson of the party Randip Surjewala in a press conference here today also producing four MLA’s namely Puanbhai Gamit, Mangalbhai Gavit, Amit Chaudhary and Ishwar Patel who claimed that they were offered money by BJP camp with the help of police officials and others to the tune of five to 10 crores for switching over.

Surjewala demanded that election commission of India should take cognizance of the incidents and must register a criminal complaint in this serious matter under the provision of not only the representation of peoples act but also under the IPC and prevention of corruption atc.

He also said that BJP president Amit Shah who was also a candidate in the election and CM Vijay Rupani should also respond to the allegations and reply to the people of Gujarat.

Surjewala said that BJP was trampling and murdering the democracy and denigrating the constitutional mores in broad-day light.

“The onus now lies with the ECI to take a strict action and register the case. The Chief Election Commissioner being a Gujarati himself understands the semantics and we hope he would take action,’ he said.

He also alleged that ruling BJP was following the divide and rule type of policy of the British regime. ‘Power at all coast and any cost seems to be the guideline for BJP which has majority to choose only two Rajyasabha members in the August 8 polls. The hunger for power has seemingly made them blind,’ he said.

Senior Party leader Shaktisinh Gohil on the occasion said that in the past also people had rejected those who had joined BJP by defecting from Congress. His election from Abdasa seat in a by-election was a testimony to that.

The four MLA’s on the occasion shared their versions of allegation. Punabhai, an MLA from Vyara seat claimed that an attempt to lure him was made by an IPS official.
