Twelfth century statue stolen from Patan in Gujarat returns from London

Patan: An twelfth century sandstone marble Brahma – Brahmani statue which was stolen from historic town Patan in North Gujarat in 2001 has been retrieved from London after 16 years. The statue arrived at Delhi based Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) last year on 22 December. It has been at present kept at the Purana Qila museum temporarily. It will be eventually taken back to Patan after Baroda Circle of ASI makes proper security arrangements. An individual in London had released advertisement to sell this priceless statue. Records show that 25 stolen antiquities have been recovered from various countries since 2014 against the 13 recoveries made in 37 years from 1976 to 2013.
