GIFT-GNLU launched Certificate Course on “Business Regulations on IFSC”

Gandhinagar: Gujarat International Fin-Tec City (GIFT City) and Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) have launched their first joint certificate course on “Business Regulations on International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).” The comprehensive course aims to equip participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge about International Financial Services Centre, and the intricacies involved in its functioning in India.

Speaking about the development, Mr. Ajay Pandey, MD and Group CEO, GIFT City, said, “GIFT IFSC being India’s first operational IFSC, there’s a pressing need to further educate people about the various aspects of IFSC, one of which is financial laws. In May last year, we had signed a MOU with GNLU to foster awareness and improve understanding about international financial laws. We are glad that implementation has started on this front and we are able reach out to all relevant stakeholders in India.”

The certificate course and the knowledge series are a part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at GIFT City (GIFT IFSC) to collaborate and further develop a legally cohesive financial services ecosystem in India.

To commence the event, GNLU, through its Centre for Banking and Financial Laws in collaboration with GIFT IFSC and the BSE IPF had also organized a Round-Table on the theme “Using Dispute Resolution through the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) at GIFT.”

Dr. Bimal N. Patel, Director, GNLU, pointed out that series of Roundtables as part of Knowledge Lecture series are conceived in order to come out with significant takeaways in the form of recommendations to concerned authorities for implementation. He emphasized on promoting arbitration culture in India and in this context emphasized on the crucial role envisaged for SIAC in development of IFSC. He encouraged participants of round table to lead the transformation happening in IFSC.

At the valedictory session of the Certificate Course Dr. Bimal N. Patel emphasized on the need of tangible outcomes of MoU with GIFT which is realized in the form of the Certificate Course. He highlighted that Law Relating to IFSC is also offered as an optional course in 4th year of UG programme. He expressed satisfaction with the Manner in which MoU is being worked out with the cooperation of GIFT IFSC and hoped that the collaboration will meaningfully contribute to the overall development of IFSC in the form of research, training and extension activities.

Shah, Former Chief Justice, Bombay High Court; Mr. Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, Bombay Stock Exchange; Mr. Pranav Mago, Head South Asia, Singapore International Arbitration Centre; Dr. Bimal N. Patel, Director, Gujarat National Law University.
