January 23, 2018
Vadodara: All five BJP MLAs and member of parliament skipped the M.S. University convocation function in which they were invited, and their seats were kept reserved.
This has triggered speculations on whether they boycotted the function due to no-representation of Vaddoara in State Cabinet.
The President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Governor OP Kohli and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were among those who attended the function, but local Lok Sabha member and all five MLAs elected from the city were absent. MLA Jitendra Sukhadia is senate member too in MS University, but he to choose to skip the function. When media persons contacted the MLAs and asked about their absence, Akota MLA Sima Mohile said she was not invited. However the University confirmed she was invited personally through Pravin Jani and Dhimant Bhatt. Sayajigunj MLA Jintendra Sukhadia and Vadi MLA Manisha Vakil said they were present at the airport but were not invited to MS University function. However MSU confirmed they were invited.
It should be noted that Yogesh Patel and Jitu Sukhadia are among some of senior most MLAs while Rajendra Trivedi has been dropped from the cabinet. Manisha Vakil was hoping to enter cabinet but instead of her another Dalit MLA Ishwar Parmar was inducted to cabinet.
