Mahendrasinh Vaghela confirms his resignation from BJP, says he would issue detailed statement on his return to Gujarat
October 18, 2018
Ahmedabad: Ex-MLA son of Shankarsinh Vaghela, Mahendrasinh Vaghela has resigned from the ruling BJP which he had joined in July this year.
Mahendrasinh, who is out of Gujarat, confirmed over phone that he has resigned from the party and send his resignation to state BJP Chief. He said that he would give detailed statement on his return to Gujarat on Monday or Tuesday.
Notably, his father and Former Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela had soon after his joining BJP in July issued an ultimatum of sorts to him saying that he had not taken his supporters in to confidence before suddenly joining BJP. Senior Vaghela, who has off-late again showing anti BJP stance, had warned Mahendrasinh, the former Congress MLA from Bayad in North Gujarat of breaking all political relations with him.
Notably, of the 14 Congress MLA’s who revolted from the party in July-August last year, 12 had joined BJP. Only Senior Vaghela who took charge of Jan Vikalp Morcha and his son Mahendrasinh had not joined the party then.
Mahendrasinh had openly met BJP president Amit Shah in August last year and said that he would join the party soon. But it took almost a year for him to do so.
Meanwhile, sources in the BJP said that Mahendrasinh in his one line resignation had not mentioned any reason for his act.
