Amreli:The electricity connection of government sector telecom provider BSNL’s exchange and office in Dhari town of Amreli district in Gujarat has been disconnected due to non-payment of bill.
Due to non availability of electricity, the exchange has been almost shut down which in turn has made all the BSNL landline phones in the town dead. The online work in most of the local government offices and other places dependent on BSNL broadband were also completely hampered.
Deputy engineer of Pashchim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL), that feeds electricity to the 12 district in Saurashtra and Kutch including Amreli, Chirag Sarvaiya today said that the Dhari BSNL office has not paid Rs 45000/- bill of last two months. ‘After pursuing the head of the office for 10 days, we decided to disconnect the connection of the office on Wednesday,’ he said.
Mamlatdar Dhari Pratapsinh Zala said that as most of the government work was being done online nowadays. It was completely hampered due to broadband line of BSNL line being down.
‘Even the work in various Panchayat offices and other offices in the town have taken a hit. No such work could be done in my office today. We have informed this to the higher ups. The BSNL mobile phones are working but the net on the mobile phone was also down,’ he said adding that he hoped that the issue would be resolved by tomorrow.
Sarvaiya on the other hand claimed that the connection is being resumed tonight after a written assurance from the BSNL office that the dues would be cleared by December 5.
