Jasdan: Counting for Jasdan assembly seat by-election is underway. BJP candidate and State candidate Kunvarji Bavaliya is enjoying lead over his rival Congress candidate Avsar Nakia consistently since postal ballot counting. Counting is continuing and it will complete after 19 rounds. Bavaliya was elected on this seat in general elections of Gujarat assembly in December 2017. He resigned from Congress and also as MLA early this year and joined BJP. He was soon made cabinet minister. A by-poll was declared as per law which mandates that any seat can’t stay vacant for continuous period of six months. While Kunvarjibhai was preparing for this by-poll even before he resigned from the post of MLA, rival Congress party choose its candidate on the last day of filling nomination form. There was a strong sentiment that Jasdan should reelect Kunvarjibhai so that the area can benefit through his cabinet portfolio status and enjoy fruits of development. Kuvarjibhai first contested assembly polling 1990 from Janta Dal. In 1995 he was elected as MLA for the first time. He never lost Jasdan seat after that.
