BJP enjoys upper hand in local body by-poll results in Gujarat by winning 10 of 12 seats

Gandhinagar: Candidates representing ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have won majority of seats in by-polls held for vacant seats of local bodies.
State Election Commission had declared by-polls for 11 vacant municipality seats and 1 municipal corporation seat, polling for which was scheduled on January 27. BJP won two municipality seats in Vadnagar an Dhrangadhra unopposed. Polling therefore was held for 9 municipality and 1 municipal corporation seats. While Rajkot Municipal Corporation seat had witnessed 31.12% polling, 9 seats of municipalities had witnessed 42.58% turnout.
BJP candidates are victorious on 9 out of total 11 municipality seats that went for by-poll in addition to one municipal corporation seat. Congress candidates have been successful on two seats of municipality.
BJP candidate Bharat Modi has won Siddhpur ward number 07 by-poll against Congress and independent candidates.
Congress candidate Chandrika Vasava has won Rajpipla municipality by-poll of ward number 05 by margin of 145 votes against rival candidates. This seat was earlier won by BJP. Daughter of previous BJP councillor was given ticket to contest this seat.
BJP candidate Nitin Ramani has won Rajkot municipal corporation by-poll of ward number 13 against independent candidate. Congress candidate had withdrew his form after which the main contest was between BJP and independent candidates.

BJP candidate Dharit Patel has won Nadiad municipality ward number 07 by-poll. Rival Congress candidate could receive only 580 votes, giving away clear victory to BJP candidate by margin of over 3300 votes.
BJP candidates have also been victorious in by-polls of ward number 03 and 06 in Sutrapada municipality.
Congress candidate Anwar Kazi has been victorious on ward 03 seat of Palitana Municipality by 219 votes.
Wankaner, Gandhidham, Thasra were other municipalities where by-polls were held for one seat each.
In reaction to by-poll victory of BJP candidates, Chief Minister Rupani said BJP will retain all 26 Lok Sabha seats in upcoming general elections.
