Surat BJP Councillor held by ACB in bribe case, party suspends him

Surat: BJP Councillor of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Jayanti Bhanderi was held today in Anti Corruption Bureau(ACB) trap for taking Rs. 50,000 bribe over construction of clinic by private doctor. Bhanderi has been suspended after this development, said city BJP chief Nitin Bhajiyawala. Bhanderi is yet another SMC Councillor held for taking bribe. Earlier BJP Councillors Nancy Sumra and Mina Rathod were also held by ACB in bribe case.

Assistant Director of ACB Gambhirsinh Padheriya said that councilor and vice chairman of drainage committee of SMC, Jayantilala Dahyabhai Bhanderi was nabbed accepting the bribe on road near Vir Meghmaya circle in his area Singanpur in the city.
He took the money on a handkerchief and put in his pocket when the ACB team which had laid a trap on the basis of a secret complaint from the doctor caught him.
The doctor was running a clinic on the ground floor of the building of a residential society in which on the upper floor he himself lived. The councilor had sought bribe from him to give him protection from any possible action by the SMC against the unlawful running of his clinic in a residential area.
