Gujarat announces Small Scale Distributor Solar Project policy

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat today in a statement said that Gujarat would be the first state in the country to implement a ‘Small scale distributor solar project’ policy.
The policy will be effective for next five years. It will pave a way for setting up 500 kw to 4 mw capacity small solar projects. Power companies in the state will purchase electricity from such projects. Farmers will be able to set up such small projects in their land or lease their land to earn income. It will also create local jobs. Small entrepreneurs, cooperatives or small companies will have opportunity to set up small solar projects on leased land. Priority will be given to the land located near existing sub-stations of GETCO. Gujarat govt agency GEDA has been made nodal agency for implementation of this policy. Plant above 4 mw capacity will not be allowed under this policy. Government land will not be offered under this policy. Electricity will be supplied directly to 11 kw line. State power companies will ink 25-year agreement.
