VAYU inches closer to Gujarat coast, likely to convert in to severe cyclonic storm by 0830 pm tonight

Gandhinagar: Cyclone VAYU was situated at a distance of 570 km south of Veraval and was likely to convert in to a severe cyclonic storm by 0830 pm tonight.
Meanwhile heat condition prevailed in Rajkot, Amreli and Surendranagar today even as heavy rain is likely to lash coastal Saurashtra from tomorrow.
According to the latest IMD bulleting The Cyclonic Storm ‘VAYU’ (pronounced as VAA’YU) over Eastcentral Arabian Sea moved further northwards with a speed of about 13 kmph in last six hours, slightly intensified further and lay centred at 1430 hrs IST of today, near latitude 15.7°N and longitude 70.6°E over Eastcentral Arabian Sea, about 340 km west-northwest of Goa, 440 km south-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 570 km nearly south of Veraval (Gujarat). It is very likely to intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 06 hours. It is very likely to move nearly northwards and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval and Diu region as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph during early morning of June 13.
Rainfall warning is as following –
June 12 – Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra namely Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Junagadh and in Diu. Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli. Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty wind (40-50kmph) very likely at isolated places in the districts of North Gujarat region namely, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha.
June 13- Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at a few places with extremely heavy falls in the districts of Saurashtra namely Junagadh, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Diu. Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at a few places in the districts of Saurashtra namely Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, Bhavnagar. Heavy rains at isolated places in Kutch district. Heavy rain very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Surat, Navsari, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli. Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty wind (40-50kmph) very likely at isolated places in the districts of North Gujarat region namely, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha.
June 14- Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka and Kutch.
