BJP wins 54 of 59 seats in Junagadh Municipal Corporation, NCP 4, Congress 1

Junagadh: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has secured victory over 54 of total 59 seats in general election of Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC), one of six municipal corporations in Gujarat. BJP has thus retained civic body.

Congress which had enjoyed power for one term in Junagadh previously could win just 1 seat in ward number 04. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with Congress rebels as its most candidates has secured victory on 4 seats in ward number 08.Congress had won 16 seats in previous general election of Junagadh Municipal Corporation.

This is a major setback for Congress after its recent defeat in Lok Sabha general elections on all 26 Lok Sabha seats of Gujarat.

Satish Virda alias Satish Captain, the leader of Opposition Congress in the outgoing general board of Junagadh Municipal Corporation also lost his seat from election Ward No.15. Manjulaben Parsana has emerged the lone victorious Congress candidate in Junagadh Municipal Corporation. She won from election Ward No.4 which covers Joshipura area of city.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and State BJP chief Jitu Vaghani will visit Junagadh tomorrow to participate in victory procession. They will also address a gathering to convey thanks to voters.

There were total 111 seats that went for polling across district panchayats, taluka panchayats and municipal corporation. BJP has secured victory on 96 seats, up from 73 previously. Congress is down from 38 previously to 8 now. Others/independents are up from zero previously to 7 now.
