GIDM and NCC Directorate Gujarat ink MoU for disaster risk management training to over 65,000 cadets

Gandhinagar: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday between Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM) Gujarat and NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu for training of NCC personnel and their contribution towards disaster risk Management.
The MoU was signed by Major General Roy Joseph, Additional Director General, Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Shri PK Taneja, DG, GIDM.
According to a statement, the theme of MoU is ‘Role of Youth and Volunteers in Disaster Risk Management’. Under MoU the GIDM will conduct various capacity building activities by different modes of training such as Residential / Virtual Classes, SATCOM, Combo programs etc apart from training in disaster risk management by participating in joint activities, internships and projects. The MoU will benefit about 65,000 NCC cadets and 1500 ANOs/ PI staff across Gujarat and UTs.
The statement further said: GIDM is positioned as Centre of Excellence and is dedicated to development and application of information, research and technology for the safety of life and prosperity and socio economic process in disaster risk management.This MoU enables youth to unleash their potential and undertake voluntary activities thereby filling a crucial gap in harnessing the youth power during disaster management and substantially augment the resources of Gujarat state.
