Gandhinagar: PM Narendra Modi today met his Nonagenarian mother Hiraba here this afternoon to took her blessings on his 69th birthday.

Wearing an orange coloured sleeveless khadi jacket over Kurta Pyajama, Modi reached the house of his youngest brother Pankaj Modi in Raisan area here where his mother lived.

He touched her feet and spent sometime with her. He also had his lunch with her. He was served with a Gujarati thali.

Later when he came out of his brother’s house, a large number of people mostly neighbourers including children were waiting outside to have a glimpse of him.

PM Modi not only obliged them with autographs but also allowed some of them take selfies with him.

Modi had arrived Gujarat last night on a two day visit to his home-state to participate in Namami Devi Sarvade event at Kevadiya in Central Gujarat to mark the filling up of Sardar Sarovar dam. He stayed at the Rajbhawan overnight and was expected to meet his mother in the morning to take her blessings, a ritual he follows on most of the important occasions including his birthdays. He however met her in the afternoon after returning from Kevadiya.

He took her blessings and inquired about her health and later left.

A neighbourer woman said that his children expected the PM to arrive at his mother’s place in the early morning like other occasions and got up early to have a glimpse of him. When he did not turn up they did not go to school for the fear of missing the chance. They were fortunate to meet and greet him.
