Almost no possibility of rainfall in Gujarat upto October 5: Jayant Sarkar of IMD Gujarat

Gandhinagar: A meeting of Weather Watch Group was held here today. Following are the major points announced at the end of the meeting:

– There’s almost no possibility of rainfall in Gujarat upto 5 October: Jayant Sarkar, Director of IMD, Gujarat

– Monsoon will leave Gujarat in coming days: Jayant Sarkar, Director of IMD, Gujarat

– Gujarat has witnessed 147.36% rain in this monsoon. All districts have received over 107% rains while all talukas have received more than 12 inch rains.

– Sowing has been witnessed in 86.20 lakh hectare land which equals to 101.69%: KD Kapadiya, Relief Commissioner

– Water level in Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam is at 138.29 meter.

– 12 teams of NDRF are present in Gujarat while 3 teams are kept reserved.

– 84 roads are closed for traffic due to heavy rains which include 2 State highways in Jamnagar and 3 in Porbandar.

– In other roads closed for traffic, 20 are in Porbandar district, 18 in Arvalli, 11 in Junagadh and 10 in Sabarkantha. Works are on to restore them for traffic.

– Gujarat had received highest 1245 mm rain in 1994, 1223 in 2007 and 1144 o far in 2019.

– 119 of 204 reservoirs are full. Present storage in reservoirs is 92.92%.

Apprehensions of heavy rain subdued yet chances of rain doing villainous act during Garbas not completely ruled out

Gandhinagar: Even though the ‘apprehensions’ of heavy rain has subdued in most parts of Gujarat today on the third day of Navratri yet the chances of rain doing villainous act during Garbas has not completely been ruled out.

The met has not issued any heavy rain warnings from tomorrow yet the likelihood of light to moderate rains in some parts have not been ruled out.

Ahmedabad city which has remained rain-free till 7 pm today has met predictions of likelihood of light rain or thundershowers during the late evening/night.

From 6 am to 6 pm today 93 talukas of 21 districts have seen rain with maximum 98 mm in Rajula of Amreli district.Ghogha in Bhavnagar has seen 52 mm, Jesar in Rajkot 35 mm, Songadh in Tapi 33 and Dholera in Ahmedabad 30 mm. However the intensity of rain is much subdued that last two days with only 10 talukas seeing an inch or more rain. In the last 24 hours ending 6 am today a total of 207 talukas in 31 districts had seen rain with maximum 197 mm in Satlasana of Mahesana district.

At many places rain has almost completely washed the Garba events on the first two nights. It is likely that the garbas would become a regular affair at most places from tomorrow or the day after.

The state has so far seen nearly 141% of seasonal rain.
