‘Maha’ turns in to very severe storm, likely to cross Gujarat between Diu and Dwarka around mid night of Nov 6 or early morning of Nov 6

Gandhinagar: The cyclonic storm ‘Maha’ in the Arabian sea has intensified in to a very severe cyclonic storm today and It is very likely to re-curve tomorrow a weaken a bit to cross Gujarat coast between Diu and Dwarka as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph around midnight of 6th
November/early hours of 7th November.
Under its influence parts of Saurashtra, central and South Gujarat would see spells of heavy to very heavy rain on November 6 and 7.
Today till 6 pm not much rain has taken place despite heavy rain warning for the day. Only 7 talukas of 5 districts have seen rain with Lakhani in Banaskantha seeing maximum of only 10 mm. Poshina in Sabarkantha has also seen a similar amount of rain.
During last 24 hours ending 6 am today, 128 talukas of 28 districts had seen rain with Khergam in Navsari district seeing highest 84mm.
The state has seen 145.16% rain so far.
The detailed synoptic situation, general rain forecast and heavy rainfall warning as per the met bulletin issued here this evening is as follows –
SYNOPTIC SITUATION : –
The Severe Cyclonic Storm Maha over east-central Arabian Sea moved further westwards with a speed of 09 kmph during past 06 hours, intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm and lay centered at 1430 hours IST of today, over east-central Arabian Sea near Latitude 17.6°N and Longitude 65.9°E, about 590 km westsouthwest of Veraval (Gujarat), 630 km westsouthwest of Diu and 590 km southwest of Porbandar. It is very likely to move westnorthwestwards slowly till 4th November, recurve eastnortheastwards and move rapidly thereafter and weaken gradually from 5th November onwards. It is very likely to cross Gujarat coast between Diu and Dwarka as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph around midnight of 6th November/early hours of 7th November, 2019.
