February 23, 2020
Anand: A clash between two communities erupted again in the Akbarpur village under Khambhat police station of Anand district in Central Gujarat today.
At least three houses were burnt during the clash and stone pelting. However, there were no reports of any injuries or casualty.
Police said that it had to resort to over half a dozen rounds of tear gas shelling to control the unruly mob.
Notably, earlier last month (January 24), one person had died and incidents of arson had happened during clash between two communities in the same Akbarpur village. The deaceased who had sustained bullet injury then was identified as local resident Vinod F Chawda. The violence on that had started when two groups started stone pelting after the Jumma Namaz in a local mosque.
Today’s incident looked like a fallout of that only and It is understood that the two groups belonging to different communities had a fight earlier on, on the Uttarayan day recently over kite flying. A group of people had also burnt down over half a dozen kutcha/pucca houses during the clash last month.Police had to resort to tear gas shelling and also opened fire in the air to control the mob.
Extra police has been deployed in the area where the situation was now tense but under control.
