Shops allowed to reopen from Sunday across Gujarat; malls and marketing complexes excluded

Gandhinagar: Shops will be allowed to open with effect from Sunday, April 26 across Gujarat. Malls and marketing complexes will however will not be allowed to operate.

Gujarat Chief Minister has announced this decision in connection with the Government of India’s public notification.

Shops and businesses should be outside the containment area. Only 50% of regular staff will be allowed in shops. Mask wearing and social distancing is mandatory. Containment areas will be defined as per a decision of relevant local civic body.

IT and ITES industries outside containment area will also be allowed to function with same conditions including 50% staff.

The State government note said, ‘Restaurants, hotels, tea stalls, pan-cigarette shops, salon-barber shops are not reopening from tomorrow.’

‘Marketing complex and malls witness more footfalls, and therefore as of now they are not allowed to open,’ Ashwani Kumar, Secretary of Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office said.

‘Shops registered under Shops & Establishment Act which was call Gumasta dhara will be allowed to reopen. However whether to allow cold drinks and other shops will be decided later,’ he added.

‘Paan-masala shops are not to be allowed to reopen, our focus is on essential items. Paan-masala shops are to be allowed to reopen in last phase,’ he further added.

‘Wall city area of Ahmedabad, and other containment zones are excluded from the order,’ he said.
