Gujarat High Court stays annual Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad in the wake of pandemic situation

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court bench headed by Chief Justice Vikram Nath in urgent hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) today stayed annual Rath Yatra of Jagannath Mandir which was to be held on June 23 in Ahmedabad if the State govt had given permission. The State govt had decided to wait for court order after a PIL was filed, before taking final decision on whether to permit Rath Yatra this year or not and if permitted, how to ensure proper social distancing. Meanwhile Jagannath Mandir Mahant Dilipdasji Maharaj said, the mandir will explore the options in a meeting which is to be held tomorrow. Mahant Dilipdasji said, traditional Netrotsav vidhi will be held tomorrow at 5.00 pm post solar eclipse. He said one option is also to take Raths on journey within the temple campus. The decision on whether to go to the Supreme Court will also be taken after a meeting tomorrow.
