Gujarat BJP gears up for 8-seat by-polls; State level coordinators, seat wise incharges appointed

Gandhinagar: Gujarat BJP has started preparations for upcoming 8-seat assembly by-polls that are likely to be held by the end of the month of September this year. The party has today appointed two in-charge for each of 8 seats. One incharge has been appointed from party organization, while the other from the government.

According to State party spokesperson Bharat Pandya, State party vice president Bhargav Bhatt and former minister Shankar Chaudhary will coordinate the overall management and preparations for 8-seat bypolls at State level.

Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and KC Patel will be responsible for Abdasa assembly bypoll.

RC Faldu and Nitin Bhardwaj have been assigned responsibility for Limbdi assembly bypoll.

Pradipsinh Jadeja and Shabdasharan Brahmbhatt have been made incharge of Karjan assembly seat bypoll.

Ganpat Vasava and Purnesh Modi are to be inchrage of Dang assembly seat bypoll.

Ishwarsinh Patel and Bharatsinh Parmar will look after Kaprada assembly seat bypoll as incharge.

Saurabh Patel and IK Jadeja are to be responsible for Morbi assembly seat bypoll.

Kunvarji Bavalia and Gordhan Zadafia will work for party’s victory over Gadhada seat as incharge.

Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (Hakubha) and Dhansukh Bhanderi are incharge for Dhari assembly seat bypoll.

These decisions were taken in a core group meeting of State BJP, held today at party headquarters in presence of national joint organizational secretary V. Satish, union minister Parshottam Rupala, CM Rupani, Dy CM Nitin Patel, State party president Vaghani, State party organizational general secretary Bhikhubhai Dalsania among others.

Bypolls on all 8 seats have been necessitated due to resignations of then Congress MLAs from the membership of the State assembly ahead of recently concluded four-seat Rajya Sabha elections. While five Congress MLAs resigned from the State assembly in the month of March this year, another three tendered their resignations in the month of June.

Thanks to their resignations, BJP could win one extra seat of Rajya Sabha, while Congress could win only one instead of two seats.

Five of eight former Congress MLAs who resigned from their seats have joined the BJP after Rajya Sabha polls.

BJP won 99 seats in the general elections of Gujarat assembly in December 2017, just seven seats more than the halfway mark. Thanks to bypolls that happened after that, ruling BJP at present has 103-seat strength in the State assembly. For the sake of even better stability of government and gains in future Rajya Sabha elections in the State, BJP would try to win maximum of 8 seats. However the previous by-poll season in October-2019 was not much fruitful for the party. BJP could win 3 of 6 seats that went for bypoll. The party lost Tharad seat which was earlier with BJP. The party had to struggle to win its stronghold Amraiwadi in Ahmedabad city.
