June 05, 2020
Gandhinagar: Morbi MLA Brijesh Merja has resigned from the State assembly. Merja belongs to opposition Congress party. With this, the total number of Congress MLAs who resigned from the assembly is 8, ahead of polling for four Rajya Sabha seats scheduled on June 19.
Yesterday resignations of two Congress MLAs were announced. They were representing Karjan and Kaprada seats.
Earlier 5 Congress MLAs had resigned. They were representing Abdasa, Dhari, Limbdi, Dang and Gadhada had resigned.
As per present strength of MLAs, Congress will be able to win only one seat and not two. Congress has fielded Bharatsinh Solanki and Shaktisinh Gohil as candidates. Though Congress high command has ordered party MLAs to make Shaktisinh victorious, if only one candidate can win, there’s a possibility of MLAs overruling the high command and make Bharatsinh Solanki victorious.
BJP has fielded three candidates and it appears all three are set to win.
