Repair roads before Diwali: Rupani to Civic bodies

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Rupani today asked the civic bodies administration to prepare detailed master plan to repair roads damaged during monsoon on priority before Diwali.

In a decision under the Prime Minister’s ambitious ‘Nal-se-Jal’ Mission, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today directed local self-government bodies to regularize half-inch ghost water connections in independent and private houses for domestic consumption with a nominal charge of Rs.500 by December 31, 2020.

In another major decision under the same mission, following demand, private slums in municipal corporations, municipalities and towns will be provided water connections as per the rules and norms.

In video-conference from here to review the progress of the ‘Nal-se-Jal’, road repairing, controlling corona and other pressing issues, Rupani directed the eight municipal commissioners and regional municipal commissioners to arrange regular business meetings with elected representatives for coordination to review and find solutions to day-to-day issues.

He also told them to fix target and ensure cleanliness, make civic services online faceless to rise up to the need of the hour.

Rupani told the Regional Municipal Commissioners to work as the link between the State Government and Municipalities to complete pending works related to road, street light, water, gutter and cleanliness.

The Chief Minister said that Gujarat Government has evolved a work culture for fast approval of TP and DP Schemes on war footing, which must be followed up with fast implementation, with priority to infrastructure, treatment and recycling of waste water through transparency.

He asked the civic bodies to make the civic centre services into online, faceless system as per the need of the hour.

Additional Chief Secretary for Urban Development Mukesh Puri made a detailed presentation of the works carried out by civic bodies.
