Bhuj celebrates as Hamirsar lake achieves full level of water
August 31, 2020
People of Bhuj, the district headquarters of the border district of Kutch, gathered on the banks of 460-year old Hamirsar lake in a celebration mood today and participated in the traditional puja and thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate the lake achieving top level. The lake, spread over 28 acres is overflowing. This ceremony is so important that there’s an old tradition of the district collector invoking his special power to declare a holiday in Bhuj to mark overflow of Hamirsar. Prior to Kutch becoming part of the Indian Union in 1948, the ceremony of Jal Puja used to be performed by a member of the royal family of the erstwhile princely state. DeshGujarat
