Amid pandemic, Gujarat Congress attempts protest rally; State party chief, others not wearing mask when detained
October 07, 2020
Ahmedabad: Amid ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, opposition Gujarat Congress today wanted to hold a protest rally on city’s busy Ashram road. As the rally named as ‘Pratikar rally’ was denied permission for obvious reasons related to pandemic, Police detained around 50 leaders including State Congress president Amit Chavda outside the State Congress headquarters in Paldi.
Chavda and other Congress leaders attempting to take out a procession were not wearing masks and breaching the guidelines pertaining to need to maintain social distancing. Risking Covid infection, police men had to go between the crowd in order to detain the Congress leaders.
Amit Chavda’s relative and senior Congress leader Bharatsinh Solanki was recently discharged from a private hospital after 101 days of hospitalization linked to Covid infection. Chavda was there when Solanki was discharged. However it appears he has learnt no lesson. While Congress leaders miss no opporunity to lambast ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for breach of social distancing and mask related rules, Congress itself has recently organized two protest rallies – one in Gandhinagar and the other in Ahmedabad today.
Large number of police men were deployed to fail any attempt of Congress to hold rally in a stretch from Kochrab Ashram to State Congress headquarters.
Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) of Sector -1 Rajendra Asari said the rally was not permitted.
Meanwhile commuters in the city had to suffer due to Congress’s rally plan, as city police diverted traffic to alternative routes.
Congress party had organized today’s rally to protest alleged gang rape incident in Hathras in rural Uttar Pradesh last month. Whether the girl was actually gang raped is debatable and yet not sure as the medical report states something else. The girl anyway was brutally beaten up and killed. There are different versions about who killed the girl. While there’s one version of gang-rape there’s other version of honor killing too.
