India successfully test fires country’s first RUDRAM New Generation Anti-Radiation Missile
October 09, 2020
New Delhi: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has added another feather to their crown by successfully testing New Generation Anti-Radiation Missile ( RUDRAM ) today. RUDRAM is India’s first indigenous Anti Radiation missile which is integrated on Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft as launch platform. With this, the country has established indigenous capability to develop long range air launched anti-radiation missiles for neutralising enemy Radars, communication sites and other RF emitting targets.
This is India second missile test within a week, earlier on Monday DRDO successfully test fired SMART. DRDO has conducted 8 successful flight test including NGARM (The New Generation Anti-Radiation Missile) since September, it was started with the test of HSTDV on September 07.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in his congratulatory tweet stated: The New Generation Anti-Radiation Missile (Rudram-1) which is India’s first indigenous anti-radiation missile developed by DRD for Indian Air Force was tested successfully today at ITR, Balasore. Congratulations to DRDO & other stakeholders for this remarkable achievement.
An anti-radiation missile (ARM) is a missile designed to detect and home in on an enemy radio emission source. Typically, these are designed for use against an enemy radar, although jammers and even radios used for communications can also be targeted in this manner. Rudram-1 has INS-GPS navigation with Passive Homing Head for the final attack. Passive Homing Head can detect, classify and engage targets over a wide band of frequencies as programmed.
The RUDRAM is first indigenous anti-radiation missile of the country for Indian Air Force (IAF), being developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missile is integrated on SU-30 Mk1 fighter aircraft as the launch platform, having capability of varying ranges based on launch conditions. It has INS-GPS navigation with Passive Homing Head for the final attack. The RUDRAM hit the radiation target with pin-point accuracy. The Passive Homing Head can detect, classify and engage targets over a wide band of frequencies as programmed. The missile is a potent weapon for IAF for Suppression of Enemy Air Defence effectively from large stand-off ranges.
