Details of Surat Metro Rail Project

Surat: Surat Metro rail project phase – 1 will as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR) approved by the Government of India in March 2020 come up at a cost of Rs. 12020 crore.

It will have mainly two corridors, with total length of 40.35 km.

Corridor 1: Sarthana to Dream City will be in length of 21.61 km including 15.14 km elevated and 6.47 km underground. Its route will be covering 14 elevated and 6 underground Metro stations at Sarthana, Nature Park, Varachha chopati garden, Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Kalakunj, Kapodra, Labheshwar chok, Central Ware House, Surat railway sation, Maskati hospital, Chok bajar, Kadarshani nal, Majuragate, Rupali canal, Althan tenement, Althan gam, VIP road, Woman ITI, Bhimrad, Convention centre and Dream city.

The second corridor will cover 18 elevated Metro stations on 18.74 km Bhesan to Saroli route at Bhesan, Botanical garden, Ugat varigruh, Palanpur road, LP Savani school, Performing art centre, Adajan gam, Aquarium, Badrinarayan mandir, Athwa – chopati, Majuragate, Udhn darwaja, Kamela darwaja, Anjna farm, Model township, Magob, Bharat cancer hospital and Saroli.

The target of completion of project is March 2024.

As per approved DPR, four Metro stations will be implemented under Public Private Partnership(PPP) model. There will be multi model integration with existing BRTS and city bus system.

The project will be executed by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, that has fifty-fifty percent stake of Government of India and Government of Gujarat.

Out of two corridors selected as per approved DPR, one connecting Sarthana to Dream city is known as Diamond Corridor as its route passes through Varachha area, the main hub of cutting and polishing of row diamonds. It will reach Dream city which is poised to become the world’s largest diamond trading hub.

Corridor 2 connecting Bhesan to Saroli is known as Textile Corridor as its route passes through city’s Ring road based textile market and new developing textile market on Saroli-Kadodara road.
