Kanu Kalsariya, others given six month imprisonment by Talaja Court; released on bail

Bhavnagar: Socialist activist and former Mahuva BJP MLA Kanubhai Kalsariya and six others have been given six month imprisonment and Rs. 800 fine by a local court in Talaja for illegal entry in Ultra Track cement plant (trespassing). All seven have been given bail. UltraTech Cement Limited is the flagship company of Aditya Birla Group. The group had acquired 1,714 hectare land in Talaja and Mahuva talukas of Bhavnagar district between 1999 and 2001 for mining limestone and supplying it to its cement plant in Rajula taluka of neighboring Amreli district. Out of that, around 1,640 hectare was private agricultural land while the remaining was government wasteland. Kalsariya was leading an agitation against mining lease.
