March 02, 2021
Gandhinagar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won all district panchayats that went for polling last Sunday. In previous elections of year 2015 for same 31 district panchayats, BJP was able to win only 8 district panchayats, while Congress had won 23. Later BJP had wrested five district panchayats – Ahmedabad, Patan, Bhavnagar, Mahisagar and Dahod from Congress leaving Congress tally at 18.
As on 7 pm today, Party Position of district panchayat seats won, out of total 980 seats was – BJP: 785, INC: 167, IND: 3, AAP: 2 BSP: 1 OTH: 4. In 2015, BJP could win 435 seats of district Panchayat. The win this time in that sense is like it was never before.
Then the win is across all sections of the people and entire geography. The victory of BJP in various districts is not just above half mark but very decisive, in ration of 2/3rd and more.
Year 2015 local polls took place in the backdrop of violent Patidar quota agitation and rural distress, and therefore Congress had excellent gains. Prior to that, in year 2010 Congress had been successful to win 01 district panchayat in local polls. The results in 2021 are therefore not just better than 2015 but even better than 2010.
