Gujarat Congress chief, leader of opposition resign
March 02, 2021
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Congress chief Amit Chavda and Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani have tendered their resignations from their posts which are approved by party leadership in the Centre. However both will continue on their post till their replacement is done by party’s central leadership.
Though there’s no official word about it, but party sources have confirmed this development and communicated it to scribes covering Congress party in Ahmedabad.
In the month of December last year, Congress party had indicated that there will be change in party leadership in Gujarat. However due to upcoming local elections in February 2021, the party had later conveyed that such change in leadership will be made only after local polls are completed.
Today, after terrific defeat of Congress party in local polls, the party had approved resignations of both leaders but asked them to continue till the end of the month of March, as the State assembly session is underway. Talks on resignation of both leaders were going on after Congress defeat in 8-seat assembly by-polls last years. All 8 seats were previously occupied by BJP but Congress could win none of them in by-polls. DeshGujarat
