Political activities resume in Gujarat as second wave of covid19 declines, one and half year ahead of assembly polls

Gandhinagar: As Covid-19 pandemic’s second wave is on decline, political parties have resumed their long pending organizational activities that were on halt.

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called a meeting of its MLAs on June 15. Ahead of the meeting, State party incharge Bhupendra Yadav is camping in Gandhinagar and interacting with party leaders. His schedule also includes one-to-one meetings with selected party men.

Deliberation are going on regarding the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic, public mood, Government’s performance, perception and image of the Government, coordination between party and government, sharing of power through new ministerial and other appointments, line of action on part of government, elected representatives and party men if third wave of pandemic arrives in future, calender of tasks to do ahead of one and half year of general elections of State assembly.

The State will witness general election of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and also see regular elections of over 10,000 Gram Panchayats in next six months.

In other developments, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is also the leader of AAM Admi Party (AAP) is going to visit Gujarat on June 14 possibly for induction of new persons including a former TV anchor of debate show on Gujarat news channel to party. Kejriwal will also inaugurate a new State party headquarters of AAP located in a bungalow in Navrangpura area.

The deliberations in main opposition Congress party ahead of one and half year of Gujarat elections are going on in Delhi. The party’s central leadership is discussing possible names of new president of State party unit, the leader of opposition and the State party incharge. The name of new party chief was to be announced in December last year. Later the announcement was postponed due to local polls in Gujarat. After massive defeat of Congress partly in local polls, it was decided that the new state party chief will be announced after the State assembly session is over. However six months after December, the party has yet not named its new State party unit chief. In the meanwhile State party incharge Rajeev Satav also passed away due to Covid-19 infection and related complications. Arjun Modhwadia and Hardik Patel are two names in discussion for the post of State party unit chief.

In one more development, Rajkot based Naresh Patel who heads Khodaldham Trust today called a meeting of leaders of six main religious organizations of Patel community. Patel told media persons that the Chief Minister of Gujarat should be from Patidar community. He said Patidars should get their share of power not politics and administration in ratio of their population. He also spoke positively for Aam Admi Party (AAP). At the end of the meeting, a decision was announced that all major religious organizations of Kadva and Leuva Patidars will form a common federation as umbrella body to work for good of Patidar community.
