Gujarat government announces policy for electric vehicles

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today announced State government’s policy for electric vehicles for next four years. The Chief Minister said, the policy intends to increase the use of electric vehicles and its manufacturing in the State. Rupani said the government aims to cut carbon emission by 6 lakh tons pear year.
He announced on an average upto Rs. 20,000 subsidy for 2-wheelers, Rs. 50,000 subsidy for 3-wheelers and upto Rs. 1.5 lakh subsidy for 4-wheeler electric vehicles. He added that the government will subsidize the e- vehicles on per KW basis.
Setting up a charging station will attract capital incentive by the government, he said adding that 250 charging stations are given approval and the government wants to set up 250 more charging stations further. Charging stations will be offered upto Rs. 10 lakh subsidy in 25 per cent of investment ratio, he said.
Rupani said, Gujarat is the first state to announce subsidy, while other states have given tax or other waivers that are nominal. Rupani said the government has estimated that 1.25 lakh 2-wheelers, 75,000 rickshaws and 25,000 cars would be on road in electric vehicle segment with today’s announcements.
Energy minister Saurabh Patel said the Centre has approved charging stations in Gujarat and even finalized the locations. The State government’s announcement is for even more charging stations that can be set up by say for example some restaurant, some hotel on the highway or elsewhere. The State government will offer upto Rs. 10 lakh capital incentive. Patel said various automobile companies can avail charging facility at such charging stations.
